Release Blitz w/Review: The Forbidden Man

How do I love this book? Let me count the ways:

  1. The heroine is 40 years old (yay for that!)
  2. It is set in Spain.
  3. It centers around Real Madrid and is full of soccer references.

For me, that’s all the author had to do to make it a winner. I’ll explain.

I do like reading romances for characters of all ages. A well-written novel transcends age. That being said, it does sometimes get tiring reading about a 24-year-old whose life is over but then miraculously meets their soulmate (not that there’s anything wrong with that, it just gets tiring after a while).

Thalia has been through a divorce (relatable), has the opportunity to switch jobs, and moves to do so (relatable) and connects with a hot young soccer player (okay…not so relatable). But still, I really “got” Thalia. The author did a great job of covering the myriad of feelings a woman goes through in those situations.

Spain. I traveled a lot as a kid because my dad worked for airlines. But somehow we never made it to Spain. I recently had the opportunity to travel to Valencia due to my son’s soccer talents (see where this is going) and absolutely fell in love with the country. I was really excited when he was invited back in the Spring to play again in Barcelona. Still haven’t made it to Madrid.

But I loved the descriptions of the different areas of Madrid. I found myself picturing places I went to in Valencia as stand-ins. It was nice to “wander back” to the country.

Soccer. My son is a total football fan. Only 14 years old, and he knows more about the game than many adults. Obsessed is a good word. Our house is all EPL and La Liga/all the time. I would have been interested in the book anyway because of the story, but the details around the players and clubs gave me another level of enjoyment.

As to the story itself, I loved reading about a woman who has the opportunity to re-invent herself and continue with new experiences. It was easy to be in Thalia’s corner, rooting for her. The romance between her and Alejo was a delicious slow burn. It was nice to live vicariously through her for even a little bit.

Even if you aren’t into football/soccer, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Thalia will win you over.

Book Review: Covering All the Bases

If you’re a baseball lover (like I am) you’re constantly on the lookout for stories /romances that are interesting but that don’t sacrifice the details of the game for the plot.

Covering All the Bases by Jody Holford is a winner in this regard. It’s not entirely baseball heavy, but there is enough reference to the sport for the casual fan to enjoy. The chemistry between the lead characters is evident from the beginning and the secondary characters are fun too.

This is a great summer read for fans of the game.

Covering All the BasesCovering All the Bases by Jody Holford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this sports romance. Most books in this genre have a hero who is a stud sports dude who humbles himself to be with the woman who takes him down a peg or two. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But this story was different because Liam Cruz was a sweetheart from the very beginning. It was so nice to see a guy who was comfortable being a nice guy in spite of his sports stature. I liked the chemistry between Liam and Isla, and I really liked Talia – I hope there is a story for her coming up next. I also enjoyed the plot; I thought it was unique. And frankly, I’m a sucker for a baseball story. Since we are heading into the heart of baseball season, I’d definitely recommend the book. Book Review: Heartthrob by Robin Bielman

NOW AVAILABLE: MAY 7, 2019

I grew up around baseball, so I am a sucker for anything that has baseball has a central part. In this case, Finn Auprince is a megastar baseball player for a fictional team, and Chloe Conrad is hired to be his social media manager.

The camaraderie that grows between them is a delicious slow burn. I loved how the author built trust between the two. I also appreciated that their reactions to events were very natural. There wasn’t any of the melodrama that one often finds in romance novels. I loved Finn’s compassion and also that he wasn’t a total rogue or jerk (also commonly found in romance novels), just someone who was committed to the sport he loved.

One of my favorite aspects of the story, however, was somewhat of a throwaway in the overall plot – but it meant a lot to me. Chloe mentions that she was homeschooled because her dad was an umpire and she had to travel with him during the baseball season. Why was this important to me?

Because Chloe is perfectly normal.

Many of you know that I have homeschooled our son since he was in the fourth grade, and we’ve all heard the stereotypes and misnomers about homeschoolers: they’re socially awkward, they don’t have good people skills, they’re isolated, etc. While those may apply to some homeschoolers, they certainly don’t apply to most.

Chloe is the epitome of the homeschoolers that I am familiar with, and in some ways, she reminded me of my son. She’s outgoing, confident, knows how to deal with people, and has an open spirit about her. The schooling her dad gave her exposed her to so much more knowledge than a traditional school could have. We are doing the same thing.

Oh, and I especially loved that her dad used Brain Quest – we had those for every grade level. I remember standing in line for the Tower of Terror at Disneyland, reading Brain Quest cards to our son. By the time we finally got to the ride, we had quite the trivia competition going on with the people around us.

I love it when an author hits the nail on the head with something like that. It just makes the book that much better. There are two more Auprince brothers to be paired off, and I can’t wait to read their stories. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up to get the series started. My Goodreads review is below.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved the story of Finn and Chloe! I appreciated that the author gave some thought into a unique way to bring them together. I also liked that it was realistic: not just the plot, but the characters as well. There wasn’t a lot of angsty back and forth; the doubts that each character had were real emotions that an actual person would feel in the same situation. I literally lol’d more than a few times. Oh, and it’s got baseball and goat yoga, so…yeah, fun times! I can’t wait to read the other Auprince brothers’ stories. He likes a challenge…

Heartthrob, an all-new sexy and hilarious standalone from USA Today bestselling author Robin Bielman, is available now!

heartthrob-MEDIUM.jpg

Here’s the deal: I’m the best center fielder in the major leagues. I’m also the guy who cost his team the championship game and acted very unsportsmanlike. So, when the team hires a social media manager to repair the damage to my reputation, I don’t argue. But then I meet Chloe Conrad, and I suddenly understand what people mean when they say they have an instant connection to someone. Which means I’m in serious trouble. Chloe’s a smart, sexy distraction I can’t afford, but one date can’t hurt, right? Only she turns me down. And just like that, it’s game on.

She’s sworn off love…

Finn Auprince is the hottest player in the major leagues. Look up “It Factor” in the dictionary and there’s his handsome face. He’s also my biggest client and I don’t care how easy it is to talk to him or how fun it is to manage his social media accounts, I will not give in to his charms. Then one drunken night, I tell him about my curse: all my previous boyfriends have found their soul mates while dating me. One more heartbreak, and I’ll never recover. But Finn doesn’t believe in curses—he believes in me. Professionally and personally. He sets out to prove the universe isn’t against me, and that his one true love isn’t waiting around the next corner.

The problem is…can we play the game of love and both come out on top?

“It’s got a Jill Shalvis/SEP vibe and I had a smile on my face all the way through. Loved every minute.” – Kate Meader, USA Todaybestselling author

Nothing But Trouble, an all-new small town romance from USA Todaybestselling author Amy Andrews, is available now!

Nothing But Trouble_1600.jpg

For five years, PA Cecilia Morgan’s entire existence has revolved around playing “left tackle” to former NFL quarterback Wade Carter. She’s so good at her job, the man can’t even buy his own condoms! Well, today she’s giving the Worst-Boss-Ever her notice.

To say CC’s announcement was a bombshell is an insult to bombs. And horribly timed, with his publisher breathing down his neck. Not too many things defy Wade Carter. Well…except his mother. His PA. And the blinking cursor of doom.

Time to call an audible.

CC is gobsmacked. Three months in his small hometown—somewhere devoid of “female distractions,” he says—while he finishes his book, and he’ll cut her loose?! And he thinks a cowboy hat and dimpled smile and she’ll just say yes? Penalty flag.

Wade can’t believe CC and the council arranged busloads of single women to visit their dying town. She never gives up. But three Super Bowl rings prove he’s no quitter, either.

But then their fighting starts to feel a whole lot like foreplay. What’s a quarterback to do when he realizes he might be falling for his left tackle?

Time to throw a Hail Mary.

Excerpt:

“And that’s where I had my first kiss.” CC tuned back in and focused on where Wade was pointing. It was the football field, a lush bright green amidst the faded wooden bleachers and the peeling goalposts. “Right there under those bleachers.” He smiled and sighed. “Kathy Williams. I became a man that day.” “It was that good, huh?” He laughed. “I suspect it was terrible at first.” He shook his head, and a tiny little hitch near CC’s heart snuck up and surprised the hell out of her. Her gaze was drawn to his profile, to the tilt of his lips. Usually those lips just exasperated the hell out of her, articulating his ridiculous demands, but, she had to admit, he had a great mouth. Kinda made a girl wonder what other demands lips like those could make. Not that she’d everwondered. Nor was she about to start. Crushing on her emotionally unavailable boss would be dumb. Especially when she was only a few months off never having to see him again. “I fumbled it badly, went like a bull at a gate. She pulled away and said, ‘softly, Wade,’ and then…” It was hard to believe Wade had ever fumbled anything. His had been the safest hands in the NFL. And he’d obviously improved beyond kissing, if that thing he did with his tongue was as good as Annabel had said. “Well…” He smiled, obviously still caught up in the memory. “Let’s just say she was patient, and I’m a fast learner.” “How old were you?” “I was fifteen. She was seventeen. The head cheerleader.” CC rolled her eyes. “How very Riverdaleof you.”
